Solid Surface

Solid surface countertops such as Corian®, are a synthetic blend of natural minerals and high-performance acrylic. We carry the following solid surface manufacturers:

• Hanex by Hyundai
• Livingstone®

Manufacturers offer these products in several grade levels, which vary by the size of the mineral particles they contain. The higher the grade, the more they resemble granite, and the higher their price. Solid color styles are less granulated and do not resemble stone at all. Solid surface tops are much lighter weight than granite or natural stone, with ½” material weighing only 4.5 lbs per sq. ft. Solid surface countertops resist attack by acids, alkalis, and water; they also will resist stains as well as the growth of bacteria, fungus, mold, and mildew, but are not absolute. Although these products are heat resistant, hot pads and trivets are necessary. Manufacturers’ warranties are generally 10 years, when properly installed by a licensed fabricator.  

Uses
In a residential or commercial setting, solid surface can be used as kitchen countertops, bathroom vanity tops, and shower and tub surrounds.

The best benefit of going with a solid surface: A major appeal of solid surface is its seamless nature.

Repairs
Should the material become scratched or broken, solid surface can, in most cases, be repaired quickly by a certified solid surface repair contractor.

Availability
Solid surface are available in hundreds of colors and visual textures, ranging from solid colors to marbleized, granite effect, or wood grain.
